Alex Turner Lyrics Pt. 1

Some of my favourite lyrics from Arctic Monkeys circa 2006. Over 10 years later and these tunes have rarely left the forefront of my mind. Great songs, great lyrics and there was, and I’m sure still is, loads more to come from these lads from Sheffield!

Anticipation has the habit to set you up for disappointment
“The View From The Afternoon”

You can pour your heart out around 3 o’clock
When the 2 for 1’s undone the writers block
“The View From The Afternoon”

I wish you’d stop ignoring me because it’s sending me to despair,
Without a sound yeah you’re calling me and I don’t think it’s very fair
“I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor”

Oh, there ain’t no love, no Montagues or Capulets
Just banging tunes and DJ sets and…
Dirty dance floors, and dreams of naughtiness!
“I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor”

his bird thinks it’s amazing, though
So all that’s left
Is the proof that love’s not only blind but deaf
“Fake Tales Of San Francisco”
So get off the bandwagon
And put down the handbook
“Fake Tales Of San Francisco”
The only reason that you came
So what you scared for?
“Dancing Shoes”

I’m talking gibberish,
Tip of the tongue but I can’t deliver it
…Properly, oh it’s all getting on top of me
And if it weren’t this dark you’d see how red my face has gone
“You Probably Couldn’t See For The Lights But You Were Staring Straight
At Me”

“Have you been drinking, son? You don’t look old enough to me.”
“I’m sorry, officer, is there a certain age you’re supposed to be?”
“Riot Van”

Well how funny was that sketch earlier, up near that taxi rank
Oh no you will have missed it, think it was when you went to the bank
These two lads squaring up proper shoutin’, ’bout who was next in the queue
The kind of thing that would seem so silly but not when they’ve both had a
“Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured”

I see your frown
And it’s like looking down the barrel of a gun
And it goes off
And out come all these words
“Mardy Bum”

Although you’re trying not to listen
Avert your eyes and staring at the ground
“When The Sun Goes Down”

Last night what we talked about
It made so much sense
But now the haze has ascended
It don’t make no sense anymore
“From The Ritz To The Rubble”

Don’t get me wrong though there’s boys in bands
And kids who like to scrap with pool cues in their hands
And just ’cause he’s had a couple of cans
He thinks it’s alright to act like a dickhead
“A Certain Romance”

over there there’s friends of mine
What can I say, I’ve known them for a long long time
And yet they might overstep the line
But you just cannot get angry in the same way
“A Certain Romance”

Well I never came from no ghetto
But it wasn’t nowhere near here
Well-spoken girls in stilettos
Aren’t something to fear
“Cigarette Smoker Fiona”

He’s got the feeling again
This time on the aeroplane
There might be telly’s in the back of the seats in front
But Rodney and Del won’t do
Although it might take your mind off the aches and the pains
Laugh when he falls through the bar
But you’re feeling the same
‘Cause she isn’t there to hold your hand
She won’t be waiting for you when you land
“Despair In The Departure Lounge”

Lady, where has your love gone?
It was the anti-septic to the sore
To hold you by the hand
Must be first, be in demand
How he longs for you to long for him once more
Just once more
“No Buses”

Her eyes went down and cut you up
And there’s nothing like a dirty look from
The one you want, or the one you’ve lost
“No Buses”

An ache in your soul is everybody’s goal
To get what they can’t have
“No Buses”

how can you wake up,
With someone you don’t love?
And not feel slightly fazed by it
“Leave Before The Lights Come On”

bring on the backlash!
“Who The FucK Are Arctic Monkeys?”
